Have you heard of the documentary "Supersize Me?" The subject of the film eats nothing but McDonald's for a month, always accepting every offer made to him. Do you want fries with that? Sure. Supersize? Absolutely. The movie is doing quite well, and prompted this Onion headline from the current issue:

"Michael Moore Kicking Self For Not Filming Last 600 Trips To McDonald's"

  • I just saw this yesterday; give yourself an evening sometime soon (there's no need to see it in the theatre) and check it out. The movie does a good job discussing the typical American's poor diet choices (with frequent trips to McDonald's as a flashpoint) without getting too preachy. And you'll never guess which audience member laughed the hardest - that's right, the obese guy with the LARGE popcorn and cola (incidentially, he went for the complimentary refill during Day 22).

While it may be my version of "I don't own a TV", my refusal to eat at McDonald's for the last decade IS a source of pride. No, I'm not looking down on the silly, unwashed masses from my moral highground - I'm just not happy with my physical condition as is. Factor in a weekly trip to MickyD's and I would be downright fat. So I'm doing myself a favor by not doing anything special, something most Americans would jump at. Maybe I'll sell this idea with the headline, "LOSE WEIGHT FAST!! NO NEED FOR DIET OR EXERCISE!!!"

  • When I saw "Supersize Me" there was some 300-pounder near us chowing down on a large popcorn and huge soda too. Everyone in the theater kept turning to look at him after certain lines and statistics and stuff. I'm sure he noticed. We were trying to figure out if the movie would change his life, piss him off, or make him hang himself.
