Poor Judgment At Its Finest

The San Francisco 49ers' PR guy made a "diversity training" video for the team. It didn't go so well. To say the least. You really have to read the whole thing to fully appreciate it.

  • Don't you think that an awfully big deal is being made out of something that was not meant for the public in the first place? I'm sure you would see and hear a lot worse than that video in any NFL locker room or NCAA locker room or even high school locker room.

Diversity should include having tolerance for those people with cruder senses of humor than our own.

  • But...

My problem with this is not that it's racist or homophobic or any of that crap, although I do personally think that it is in rather poor taste.

My problem is how incredibly stupid the 49ers PR guy was for making the video. I'm sure you would see a lot worse in a lot of places, in private. This video had almost no chance of not becoming public.

As to whether too big a deal is being made out of this, I suppose it is, only because media types simply have to focus on things like:

    1. Underlying racism, which I doubt is actually there (if this was a Chappelle Show sketch instead of a diversity training video (which is hilarious) no one would have batted an eye).

    2. How Athletes are racist jerks.

    3. What this tells us about "society."

That's all crap. And diversity should not lack judgement. Actually, my major problem with the diversity police is their complete lack of any judgement. Bottom line, whatever you think of the video, this guy was a moron for making it, and deserved to be fired for it.

  • I'm with both of you on this one, but my views (as you've read) align closer to Danny's.

Amazing to me that people get so worked up about this stuff.
