From a hotel in MotownPhilly

I'm watching Wisconsin-Bowling Green and getting ready for a wedding (drinking beer) and as luck would have it, we have a wifi connection. Was anyone else excited when John Stocco got hurt? (Not that we want to see him seriously hurt)? And even more disappointed when he came back in?

It's a heck of a game so far.

Now, back to the preparation! (Beer!)

  • What did you think of Omar Jacobs? I didn't watch a lot of the game, but I thought his mechanics looked kind of bad. Worse than I remembered from last season, which is an indictment of the Bowling Green offseason program. I think Jacobs will be a high first-round pick, but it would be nice to see him work with a quarterback coach who can help him develop and an offensive coordinator who doesn't always use the shotgun.

  • Terrible mechanics, which the Badgers exploited in the second half. Bad footwork, he throws off his back foot alot. Starts running too early. His ball tends to flutter, and he drops down to sidearm when he gets lazy. He gets by on athleticism.

I agree completely, they're wasting him their if he still looks like that. He lit us up in the first half by keeping plays alive and wearing down our corners, but most of his big completions were jump balls anyway (especially to Steve Sanders, who looked very good).

In the second half they just switched to a 2 deep zone and dared him to throw over the top (since it was clear that they couldn't run the ball), and he had just one more TD and one interception. If a relatively bad defense can stop him with such minor adjustments, it could be a tough year.
